Planning your trip

Visas for International Guests

Citizens of United States and Canada need a visa to enter Brazil as tourists.

Please visit https://brazil.vfsevisa.com for more information.

For all nationalities make sure to check that your passport is valid (and has at least 6 months before expiration at entry — a common requirement) and be prepared to show return ticket / accommodation etc

Vaccinations

No vaccinations are mandatory for entry into Brazil. However, health professionals often recommend being up to date on routine vaccines, and Yellow Fever may be advised depending on your travel plans. Please consult your doctor or a travel clinic before traveling.

Safety Kit

We suggest bringing a small kit with basic medications (for headaches or stomach discomfort), sunscreen, insect repellent, and hand sanitizer. Having your personal essentials on hand is always a good idea.

How to Get to Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro is easily accessible from major cities around the world, with excellent international and domestic flight connections.

By Air

Most international travelers will arrive at Rio de Janeiro–Galeão International Airport (GIG), which offers direct flights from North America, Europe, and other major hubs.

For domestic flights within Brazil, guests may also arrive at Santos Dumont Airport (SDU), located closer to the city center.

From the Airport
    • Private transfers, Uber, and taxi services are readily available at both airports and are the most convenient options.
    • We personally recommend using the official airport taxi service. Although slightly more expensive, it is more reliable and can be prepaid inside the arrivals area, offering a smoother and safer experience than regular taxis or ride-hailing services.
    • Ride-hailing services such as Uber are widely used and generally reliable throughout the city.
    • Travel time from Galeão (GIG) to Santa Teresa typically ranges from 30 to 45 minutes, depending on traffic.
    • Private transfers can also be arranged through Milessis, which we highly recommend as well.

Travel Essentials

Climate in Rio de Janeiro – July 18th

July is winter in Rio and one of the most pleasant times to visit, with mild temperatures and low humidity. Here’s what to expect:

Daytime:
Mild and comfortable, around 22–26°C (72–79°F)

Evenings & Mornings:
Cooler, around 16–19°C (61–66°F)
Humidity:
Lower and very comfortable

Rain:
Less frequent, but a light jacket or layer is recommended

Wander Wisely

Stick to well-lit, busy areas, especially at night.

Use registered taxis or ride-sharing apps for transportation.
Avoid carrying valuables openly and keep personal items secure.

Dress comfortably and casually — Rio is relaxed, but beachwear is best kept to the beach.

Try local food and drinks, and always drink bottled or filtered water.

Carry some cash for small purchases, though cards are widely accepted.
